Dead is a good thing.
When looking for vintage, I am thankful when I see the dead—dead stock that is! The expression “dead stock” means old inventory from a store that has closed.
Although it’s harder to find older pieces of dead stock, every once in a while, they appear. But unlike the zombies of horror films that get more decrepit with age, dead stock jewelry is more magnificent the older it is.
And I (and you) get to benefit from having real vintage from the 1980s or another era that has never been worn or is barely touched. Making it feel like traveling back in time to a jewelry counter at the long departed Alexander’s department store in New York City (now the site of Bloomberg headquarters and a Home Depot).
So here’s to the dead making an appearance this November, or any time I am on the hunt.
